BREAKING! Famous Businessman/Politician: Alhaji Arisekola Alao Is Dead!!!

The Strongman of Oyo State Politics died in London at the early hours of today.
Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao is a notable Nigerian businessman and contractor who was the publisher of the now defunct Monitor Newspaper. He is considered a wealthy businessman who is known for his causes in support of Islam in Ibadan and his close ties to many of the city’s traditional and religious elites and to various other Yoruba Muslim leaders. He bears the title of Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland.
Arisekola saw his fortunes rise during the regimes of Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha while his style is sometimes criticized as favoring any regime that can butter his nest. He was both a friend of MKO Abiola and Sani Abacha but was actively involved in supporting the latter to elongate his tenure through a transition from military to democratic leadership.

Born in 1945 to Abdul Raheem Alao and Olatutu Alao, he attended St Luke’s Primary School, Adigun and ICC Primary school, he also studied Arabic Studies. In 1960, he was with the Ogunpa-Oyo Commercial Center before venturing into full time business a year later. His traditional commercial focus is in auto sales, flour mills and oil marketing through his Lister brand, he has also developed interest in real estate, insurance, banking and publishing.
Originally, he came from humble means, joining his uncle as an apprentice in Gbagi market of Ibadan in 1960. He left in 1961 to sell gammalin 20 vide and later became an agent of Imperial Chemical Industries.
By the 1970s, he was a dealer of Datsun brand of motors under Lister Motors.
In the 1970s and 80s: Arisekola was serenaded by the Juju singer Ebenezer Obey around the late 1970s while later being conferred with the title of Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland by the league of Imams and Alfas from the region in 1980. The cross which was erected in the 1950s when only a church was a place of worship at the institution but Muslim worshipers claimed that the cross was located on the Eastern side of the mosque and was a violation of Islamic requirements not to see an idol, cross or effigy during worship. In 1990, he was co-chair of a committee interested in promoting cross fertilization of ideas and inter-religious understanding between Christians and Muslims.
During the democratic period of the Sani Abacha era, Arisekola, along with Lamidi Adedibu pitched his tent with the Democratic Party of Nigeria also known as DPN. However, his closeness with the Abacha administration has erred him detractors within Yorubaland. His Monitor Press outfit was burnt in May 1998 during the aftermath of the campaign for the prolongation of the Abacha government and right after the death of Abacha, a visit to University of Ibadan caused a minor riot when students shouted down at him and proceeded to burn his limousine as a result of anger fueled at him due to his relationship with the corrupt Abacha administration.
Arisekola doubles as the president-general of the Grand Council for Islamic Affairs and member of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, NSCIA.
In Ibadan Arisekola has contributed to many Islamic causes including the construction of mosques and alms giving to many residents who troop to his home. Nollywood: Why Yoruba movie actors aren’t respected

I have discovered that contrary to what some Nollywood top shots will have the public believe, there still exists a huge disparity between the Yoruba actors and their English speaking colleagues. Sadly, this has gone on for a long time and may continue, especially as the present generation, most of whom are educated, aren’t making efforts to bridge the gap but would rather continue to lag behind their English speaking colleagues, who continue to rake in mouth watering contracts, get featured in TIME magazine and chat with CNN, Oprah and other well known media houses.
Some blame the universality of the English language for this, but the Merriam Webster dictionary defines a celebrity simply as a famous or celebrated person, which means it is void of connections with tribe or language. Needless to say, the criteria for being a celebrity are both in the ‘art’ and in the artist. Sadly, Yoruba actors, though may have the art in them, are not doing well enough to project themselves. To help them do this, here are three things I advise they put into consideration

 1. Be Visible: A large number of the Yoruba actors and movie makers do not have quality pictures online, let alone personal websites or Wikipedia pages. Only a few are on IMDb, while those present on social media hardly engage their fans on the respective platforms. If and when they do interact, they do so with lots of blunders, caused by carelessness and impatience. Worse still, is the habit of shying away from interviews, with their usual excuse being ‘I’m on location’. But being visible isn’t restricted to social media. It extends to physical presence at gatherings and functions where they can meet and build relationships with colleagues, fans and other industry players.

2. Work with a team: A celebrity is first and foremost a brand, and that implies it must be desired by people. Creating such need in the minds of people isn’t a one-man job, which is where the importance of having a team comes into play. The team should consist of at least a spokesperson, manager, a stylist/makeup artist. All three have important roles to play. While the stylist ensures the clothes, hair and makeup are in place, the spokesperson ‎helps you stay relevant in eyes of the media and sells your strength to potential investors, while the manager sorts out how to move the career forward and fraternizes with those who matter to ensure this is done.

 3. Be Professional: It is a well known fact that many Yoruba actors and movie makers don’t have a background in film-making but learnt on the job. While this is not a problem, there is a need for constant improvement, which may involve going to film schools, building portfolios and working according to industry standards....

I can act nude for $50m" – Amanda Ebeye

Nollywood Actress, Amanda Ebeye has stated that she can act nude in any Nollywood movie if given 7.5billion naira.
In a recent interview , the ‘Clinic Matters’ star said “I cannot act nude but like I have said before, if you pay me about $50m, I will. Please who is the first to pay? I can shave my hair because I’m an actress. If the role requires it, if it is a beautiful script and the money is good, I will do it. It will not be because it is the trend. It is not because Mercy Johnson did it, so I should, no, that is not enough reason. Right now, the script has to be outstanding for me to be interested in shaving off my hair.
On growing up, she said “I was a stubborn kid. I was never a tomboy. I don’t know how to bounce or sag for the world but stubborn, fighting for my rights and the rights of others, yes. I always wanted to defend others in need. That’s why often, they used to say I knew how to ‘buy’ other people’s matter. But my friends would say I had and will always have the heart of a child because no matter how much I fight you, I’ll always feel bad and be the first to tell you sorry.”

In Lagos Man Beats His 12 Year Old Nephew to Death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Paul Obiefule, for allegedly beating his 12-year-old relative to death.
The relative, who was identified as Onyedikachi Mbanozo, was staying with Obiefule, a bricklayer, and his wife on Omitola Street in the Agege area of Lagos.
It was learnt that Onyedika, as the boy was fondly called, was the son of Obiefule’s wife’s brother.
It was further gathered that the boy was beaten to death on Monday evening around 8.30pm, while the neighbours reported the matter at the Pen Cinema Police Division on Tuesday.
It was said that Onyedika, who was attending Irewole Primary School in Agege, could not go to school for several weeks before his death as a result of a sickness sustained from series of beatings.
One of the neighbours, who identified himself as Mr. Oje Owode, told our correspondent that the boy died from an accumulation of floggings which he received from his aunt’s husband.
He said, “The man (Obiefule) usually flogged the boy like an animal. Most times, we tried to intervene, but he would not listen to us. The boy fell sick several times from Obiefule’s merciless flogging. The last sickness was for over two weeks. And then on Monday again, the man beat the sick boy, and locked him up in the room.
Later, we just saw that Obiefule and his wife went out of the house and did not return until around 5am. We noticed that he put a big bundle on his shoulder and smuggled it in with his wife.
We did not know that the boy had died in the evening and they were looking for where to dump him all night. That was when we raised the alarm and reported him to the police.
Another neighbor, Mr. Fatai, said Obiefule usually used hammer, chisel or a screw driver to inflict pains on the deceased.
It was learnt that as soon as Obiefule was arrested on Tuesday, his two boys were taken to a c primary school on the next street. When we visited the school, the proprietress, who did not want her name to be mentioned, said Obiefule’s two boys had not been spared from their father’s wickedness.
The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrest of Obiefule in an e-mail and added that the police had commenced investigations.

Electrician dies in train accident (Read 3005 times)

The-victim’s-remains
An unidentified man has been crushed to death while attempting to board a train in motion at the Yaba Railway Market, Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday at about 4pm, was said to have caused commotion in the area as people ran in different directions.

The man, who was an electrician on his way back from work, was said to have approached the train at full speed, but lost his balance and slipped, while the train dragged him, dislodging some parts of his body and eventually slitting his throat.

His working tools, which included a soldering iron, screw drivers and masking tapes could be seen close to his body.

Eyewitnesses blamed the young man for the fate that befell him, but could not help sympathising with him.

One of the witnesses, who identified himself simply as Collins, said he lived around the railway area, adding that young men were fond of boarding trains in motion.

He said, “I was the one that dragged him away from the rail and covered his remains with a sack after the train had killed him.

“He tried to jump into the train, but lost his balance and slipped. The train just dragged him along, slitting his throat in the process.”

A commercial bus driver, Mr. Paul Austin, said he became aware of the incident when people where shouting.

According to him, he did not see when the victim tried to jump on the train, but he saw the train dragging him along as it moved.

An official of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, who arrived at the scene almost immediately, but refused to give his name, said the corporation would not take the corpse, adding that it would be evacuated by the Yaba Local Council Development Area.

He said, “I was not there when it happened, so I cannot tell you anything about it. The council will be evacuating the body from the scene.”

Our correspondent noticed some policemen in their patrol van close to the scene of the incident, but they seemed unconcerned about the incident.
